A mid-twentieth century candy jar in the form of a fish.
The Argentine confectionery company MEILI produced a range of candy that was packaged in moulded glass jars. Many of the designs used are of animals, sea birds and at least one steamship. They were avidly collected at the time and many went on to have another life to the detriment of their painted finish. They were exported to adjoining countries, particularly Uruguay and some examples have been found in Chile and Paraguay.
Probably 1930.
Traces of original paintwork.
Metal lid.
