A rare marine instrument patented by J. W. Strange 1876. The company was an innovative metal manufacturer that patented a number of devices in the late nineteenth century.

The instrument combines a protractor and a T-square which enables the navigator to use a single instrument to set the desired course rather than a seperate protractor and ruler.

Finished in the original gilt laquer over brass.

405 mm long. Protractor 100 mm. diameter.

Stamped J. W. STRANGE with a seperate stamp for the patent.

In near original condition.
