Detailed map of South and East Asia and the North coast of Australia by the Dutch cartographer Nicolas Visscher. The Visscher family was amongst the foremost Amsterdam families involved in the Dutch map trade. This map was published during the life of Nicolas Visscher 11 (1649-1702).
The north-west of Australia including the Gulf of Carpentaria is detailed with accurate place names according to the explorations carried out by the Dutch East India Company. The presence of Torres Strait is not excluded but nor is it named.
Centred on the Straits of Malacca it extends west to India, north to the southern coast of Japan ad east to New Guinea.
