A ingenius fishing machine used by the natives of the island of Luzon, Phillipines. The fisherman works from a raft and suspends a net over the water. The net is raised and lowered into the sea by means of a counter-balanced crane.

The artist is Pierre Sonnerat, (1748-1814), a French adventurer and naturalist. The illustration was published in "Voyage aux Indes Orientales et a la Chine. (1782).

Copperplate engraving.

240 x 378 mm. (9 1/2 x 14 7/8 inches). Approximate plate size.

Good condition with the two fold lines as issued. Top and bottom margins slightly trimmed, not affecting the image.
