Blout Thomas were nautical opticians, buying movements from chronometer manufacturers, rating their movements and delivering them to their ships. This movement is the standard Thomas Mercer 2 Day chronometer with the Earnshaw detent escapement. Blout Thomas had a prosperous business in Southampton, selling and servicing marine instruments.
This clock has a silvered dial, solid gold hands, numbered 4691 on the movement and on the case. Original gilded varnish finish.
The 3 tiered mahogany case is brass bound. The top tier is a replacement.
