A report prepared for the Queensland Government by William Saville-Kent, Commissioner of Fisheries and later, the acknowledged expert on the Australian Great Barrier Reef. The report discusses the various oyster species available in Queensland, the methods of cultivation and the localities where they were cultivated.

There are nine illustrations accompanying the report and these are important historically.

There are four tinted lithogaphs and one uncoloured lithograph after photographs by Saville-Kent illustrating the various oysters of Queensland. In addition there are four pages of lithographs and collotypes after photographs by Saville-Kent of oyster cultivation along the Queensland coast from Moreton Bay to Cooktown.
