A skillfully made instrument by the highly regarded maker, Jacob Abraham of Bartlett Street, Bath, England.
The compass/crescent sundial is in fine condition. The engraved sundial is highlighted in black with his makers name. The spring loaded gnomon for the folding sundial elevates in a crisp and precise manner. A manual compass needle lock is a very fine feature.
Compass dial is silvered and the mercury silver compass needle mounted on a crystal pivot.
The travelling case is shagreen.
Abraham was trained as an optician. He was active in Bath and Cheltenham 1805 - 1841 and was appointed instrument maker to the Duke of Wellington and to the Duke of Glouster.
