A well executed engraving of a gaff rigged man-o-war under full sail.  Signed by the engraver,  John R Kirkman Ex-R.N., with his emblematic trebble cleft used for the 'J' in John.  An ivory billiard ball, schrimshawed with a square rigged ship and bearing the same signature was recently sold in the United Kingdom implicitly dated 1866. In our opinion the billiard ball and this whale tooth are more likely twentieth century.
