A rare Sunderland lustre wall plaque expressing the hope that the alliance between the English and the French formed to fight the Russians (which became the Crimea War) in 1853-1856 would continue.
The transfer image is of a French and a British sailor, each carrying their nation's flag, shaking hands against a background of armaments. The transferred image has been hand-coloured in transparent enamel. The plaque is in the form of a picture frame, the outside edge enamelled in a chocolate colour.
