Deals with the voyages and management of convicts sentenced to transportation to Australia.

Browning was a Royal Navy surgeon-superintendent on convict ships and made a considerable number of voyages in this role to Australia from 1831 onwards. He devised a Christian based system of managing, careing and educating convicts during the voyage.
