The book is a detailed account of lighthouse construction and the technological developements in the building of the lighthouses and the physics involved in powering their lanterns. Extraordinarily well illustrated with several hundred pictures, many from contemporaneous sources and seven maps. Certainly the most authoritive survey of historic light houses.
